Otherwise, you will do

Otherwise, you will do what most presenters do, which is to spend much of the presentation looking at the screen. In fact, you must restrict each new parcel of information to that which can be absorbed by both you and the audience in just a few seconds ? ten at the very most.

That will set you up to then smoothly and coherently transfer the information from the screen to the audience. We call the procedure for doing this ?Absorb, Align, and Address.?

Absorb

When new information appears on the screen, all eyes will follow it, and at this point it is OK, and desirable, for you, too, to look to the screen. By doing so, you ?give permission? to the audience to get prepared for what?s coming next. That?s all the screen info should include, too: just enough information to set the stage for what you are going to discuss.

Their successful methods

Their successful methods and treatments, thankfully, are still available today in what?s being called Oriental medicine.

Interviewer:

Based on what you?ve written in other articles on the BIOM website, it seems like the old adage, ?An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? applies to how Oriental medicine works. And since it seems like people, in general, have moved away from the belief that ?technology? will fix all of our problems, what does Oriental medicine offer in way of ?prevention??

Kitty:

Developing a ?preventive? mindset is the first step, and the catalyst for taking that step is the situation you mentioned: existing systems that we?ve become dependent on are not as dependable as we thought they were. It?s similar to the way we depend on the grocery store to have the food we need. It?s a great convenience that none of us want to do without, but because it?s so convenient we have forgotten how to grow food in our own gardens. Oriental medicine is built upon ?common sense? ? a sense which isn?t so ?common? anymore. The way I practice Oriental medicine helps people learn how to get back in touch with that sense, while at the same time rebuilding their resistance to disease.

Interviewer:

What do you tell young people about maintaining and protecting their health?

Kitty:

Kids feel like they?re immortal, and that?s a wonderful feeling; a testimony to the power of health that runs through them.

They figure if you can?t pay your

They figure if you can?t pay your taxes, you shouldn?t be in business. They will sell off your assets and get their money. They will put a lien on your house, your bank account, your dog, and your first born. This is serious. Keep them off your back and pay your taxes on time.

Money ? the Stumbling Block of Mere Mortals

With persistence, and some fortuitousness, you may start making more money than you ever have before. Maybe more money than you can sensibly use. It?s what you have been working for. Enjoy it — for about five minutes. This is a dangerous place to be. You are at a crossroads. It is here that ordinary mortals fall. When you are making a lot more money, you relax. You let down your guard. You forget the tough times when you didn?t have enough money for a loaf of bread. This is when you need to remember the tough times.

Ralphie grows up

Ralphie grows up

0 Comments | Buffalo News, Oct 9, 2009 | by ROBERT W. BUTLER

Peter Billingsley was on the other side of the world at Bora Bora’s St. Regis Resort describing his working conditions for making the new comedy “Couples Retreat.”

The phrase “working conditions” may not be entirely appropriate.

“To my left is this beautiful beach,” he said by phone. “I’m in a house built on stilts over the water where we shot several scenes. On the deck there’s a hot tub . . . you can jump from the hot tub into the sea. In the floor is this big glass pane, and I can see fish swimming under my feet.”

If the name Peter Billingsley rings a bell, it’s because when he was only 11 he starred in one of the most beloved movies of all time — “A Christmas Story.” He played Ralphie, the kid desperate to get his hands on a Red Ryder BB gun.

Now Billingsley, 38, makes his directing debut with “Couples Retreat,” opening today in area theaters. It’s about Midwesterners who get a great rate on a tropical vacation, then find that as part of the deal they have to undergo marriage counseling.

Among the players are Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Kristin Davis, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman.

“You could say that the water here is a cast member, too,” Billingsley said. “I mean, it’s really that blue color you see in the movie. Remember Bomb Pops when you were a kid? That blue band on the bottom? That’s exactly the color of the water here. I’ve never seen anything like that in the Bahamas or Hawaii. All you have to do is turn on the camera, and the ocean makes you look like a visual genius.

Billingsley acted for years before and after 1983′s “Christmas Story.” But for the last decade he has worked mostly as a producer of movies (“Iron Man,” “Zathura”) and TV shows (“Dinner for Five”).

“Jason Bateman and I have a running joke that after 35 years each in this business we should be retiring. But I love what I do.”

Unlike some child actors, Billingsley has carved out a satisfying career.

“I’ve always been self-motivated, but I can’t take a ton of credit for any success I’ve had,” he said. “It’s a difficult world for lots of child actors . . . and it’s difficult to be a teenager under any circumstances. Add to that notoriety and fame, and things can go really wrong.

“But I had a terrific family and grew up very normal in Phoenix. When I was at home I had chores, and if I didn’t act right, I couldn’t do films. So that provided a foundation that let me keep perspective in a business with lots of highs and lows and rejection.”

He said he was fortunate that for his directing debut he was working with friends. Vaughn has been his best bud since they met two decades ago at an audition. And Billingsley spent several years with Favreau on “Dinner for Five.” In “Couples Retreat,” he was working from a screenplay by Vaughn and Favreau.

Even when he was on the set of “A Christmas Story,” he was fascinated by the mechanics of moviemaking, Billingsley said.

“Even after that film I’d seek out advice and guidance from Bob Clark” [writer/director of 'A Christmas Story']. When I told him I wanted to be behind the camera he said, ‘Go spend time in the editing room. That’s where you’ll learn the most important lessons about directing.’ “

Billingsley said he was devastated by Clark’s 2007 death in a traffic accident.

“Looking back, I realize Bob was the most prepared filmmaker I’ve ever seen. Did you know he tried to make ‘A Christmas Story’ for 12 years before getting the go-ahead? The studios just couldn’t see it. They didn’t think it was funny enough. They didn’t see how they could sell it.

“But by the time Bob finally got to make it, he’d had years of planning.”

Almost 30 years later, do fans still recognize him?

“Yeah. Usually around Christmas time

The versatile defender returned to Shamrock Park this summer following three years at Royal Antwerp and Morecambe.
However, red tape has forced the Lurgan-born player to miss out on Portadown’s Europa League adventure.
The official party headed off to Azerbaijan this week for the away leg of the second qualifying round against Qarabag.

McStay’s flight was a less complicated affair as he travelled back from England in preparation for tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) pre-season friendly against Mexico under 19s.
McStay may not be eligible to represent the Ports in Europe but the former youth international has set his sights on silverware on the domestic front.
“I have signed an initial one-year deal and want to make my return to Portadown count,” said McStay. “I always said I would only ever sign for Portadown if I returned to the Irish League.
“My goal is to help the club win trophies and achieve success.
“That is my motivation and certainly the European performances should help build optimism for the season ahead.
“I have had to miss out on the European football but was at Shamrock Park for the Skonto home tie.
“The lads were brilliant and everyone seems optimistic for the future.”
McStay’s first spell on the Portadown books featured appearances at right-back and centre-back.
“I have always felt centre-back is my main position but accept the competition for places in the current squad and look on that as good for the club overall,” he said. “To be honest, I just want to get back playing having missed so much of last season at Morecambe due to a knee injury.
“However, I am fine now and have been working hard in England since my return from injury towards the end of the season.
“Obviously quite a few of the lads have moved on from my first time here but it was great to meet up again with people like Keith O’Hara, David Miskelly, Richard Clarke and Wesley Boyle.
“I will continue to live in England and am currently completing my physiotherapy qualification.
“It is just great to be back at Portadown and I am looking forward to a successful season.”
Kick-off tomorrow (Saturday) will be 7.30 against Mexico under 19s, with admission set at A[pounds sterling]5 and A[pounds sterling]3 concession.
The winning Shamrock Lotto numbers are 12, 20, 22 and 23

For starters, your tank will need

For starters, your tank will need a hood to prevent the fish from jumping out, a filter to keep the water clean, water testing kit for PH water levels, a pump, lighting and others depending on type of aquarium.

Having an aquarium in your home is a lot of fun and promotes a relaxing atmosphere. It requires a little time getting accustomed to it, but once you do, you will reap the rewards. Before you set up any fish tank, clean it thoroughly, condition the water, and clean all aquarium supplies, including gravel and rocks before you add them in the tank. Cleanliness is critical to aquarium maintenance, and will help your fish stay healthy. After all, they are pets, and you want to make sure they are taken care of. One thing to remember, it is wise to start with freshwater, and once you’ve mastered that, you can always convert it to a saltwater aquarium if you choose.

Berkeley sees house market stabilising

Berkeley sees house market stabilising

0 Comments | Yorkshire Post (Leeds, England), June 25, 2010

> The group posted pre-tax profits of A[pounds sterling]110.3m in the year to April 30 – down by 8.4 per cent on a year earlier, although this was a smaller fall than most analysts had pencilled in.

Berkeley said while there were “attractive opportunities” opening up in the land market, property transactions were 40 per cent down on historic levels.

Berkeley said the market was being buoyed by demand from cash rich investors and overseas buyers taking advantage of the weak pound.

Customers snapping up properties for investment accounted for more than 50 per cent of underlying sales reservations, according to the group.

Sales prices were ahead of its targets set a year earlier and completions leapt 47 per cent higher to 2,201 in the year.

But a change in the type of properties sold saw average sale prices fall from A[pounds sterling]395,000 to A[pounds sterling]263,000 – largely accounting for a 12.4 per cent drop in group revenues to A[pounds sterling]615.3m.

The group said the industry was still digesting the implications of this week’s Budget spending cuts and tax hikes.

It added there were still “residual imbalances from the financial downturn, which will continue to affect the wider economy and the sector”.

The baby will be

The baby will be growing rapidly ? weighing in at about two pounds by the 28th week.

The third trimester is from week 28 to birth. During the third trimester, the baby is nearly completely formed, and can live with specialized care, should it be born early. The mother will likely have various physical discomforts due to the growing baby, such as backaches, trouble sleeping, heartburn, etc. As throughout the rest of the pregnancy, communication, support, and love are very important.

As the baby’s due date nears, you’ll have many decisions to make with your wife / girlfriend, with help from your doctor. Of course, you’ll want to pick out name(s) too!

KUMAMOTO, Japan – Yoshinao Tsuji has just one regret in life. He wanted to be born a cowboy.

He has the gear. The black leather chaps, order-made by Navajos in Arizona. He’s got the turquoise accessories. The boots, the big Stetson hat. For one month every year, he lives on a dude ranch.

“I love everything about horses,” he says, insisting on being called “Johnnie.” “If only I wasn’t a city boy from Kyoto.”

Johnnie isn’t alone.

Cowboys and cowgirls from across Japan turned out by the thousands recently for “Country Gold,” an annual event in the foothills of Mount Aso, a southern Japan landmark, that has become probably the biggest homage to the Wild West this side of Tucson.

The show had all the fixings of a real hoedown.
